Police were hunting for a suspect who shot and wounded a teenager Sunday night during what authorities described as an incident between two parties at the Partridge Creek Mall, an outdoor shopping center, during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The Clinton Township Police Department said in a press release that officers responded to gunfire at the mall around 7 p.m. and found the teen victim, who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. WXYZ reports the victim was shot in the abdomen and listed in stable condition.

Police said they have identified a person of interest, described as a Black male wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.

Police emphasized that the dispute was between two people and that the tree lighting ceremony was not targeted.

Partridge Creek Mall released a statement:

"We are currently working with local law enforcement to gather details on what occurred during tonight’s tree lighting event. Guest and staff safety is our top priority, and we will continue to collaborate with Clinton Township Police Department as they investigate this situation."
