Two middle-aged adults face charges of using a slingshot early Saturday morning to shatter the window of a revolving door at the Guardian Building on Griswold in downtown Detroit. They were arrested a short time later.
They are also suspects in the shattering of about seven windows at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center on Friday and the vandalism at the Detroit 36th District Court. Authorities are reviewing warrant requests for damage to those two buildings.
In the case of the Guardian Building, Ramzu Yunus, 49, of Highland Park, faces charges of malicious destruction of a building ($1,000 to $20,000), possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. Angela Williams, 57, of Waldorf, Maryland, faces charges of malicious destruction of a building ($1,000 to $20,000).
The incident at the Guardian Building occurred around 4:50 a.m. Police responded to the scene and determined that a slingshot had been used to shatter the window in the revolving door, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. No one was hurt.
Later that day, two Detroit police officers conducted a traffic stop near Madison Street and Witherell Street in downtown and arrested the two suspects, with the assistance of two additional officers who were called to the scene.
Police said Yunus was wearing an empty holster on his hip. Officers also recovered a handgun with ammunition and a slingshot with metal pellets from the vehicle, the prosecutor's office said.
