Robert Lequan Pugh, 47, of Detroit, faces a preliminary examination on May 5 on charges that he allegedly shot and wounded an 18-year-old autistic man from River Rouge who had been mistakenly dropped off in the wrong area by a driving service, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

The incident occurred on April 9 around 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said the victim was mistakenly dropped off in the area of Lenox Street and East Warren Avenue on Detroit's east side by a driving service.

After the victim took a photo of a home in the 4800 block of Lenox Street to send to a relative to help locate him, Pugh allegedly confronted him.

When the victim began to walk away from the home toward East Warren Avenue, Pugh allegedly fired a handgun multiple times, striking the young man in the lower back. He was transported to a local hospital.

About a week later, on April 15, 2025, Pugh turned himself in at the Detroit Police Department's Fifth Precinct on Conner Street.

Pugh faces charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent, and three counts of felony firearm.

“It is hard for me to fathom the utter lack of compassion and empathy in some people. The alleged facts in this case are disturbing and completely devoid of humaneness,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

Pugh was arraigned last week in Detroit’s 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. He received a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether.
