A Flint-area judge has ordered shoplifters from the Walmart on Saginaw Road in Grand Blanc Township to wash cars for free in the store parking lot when spring arrives, the Associated Press reports.
The 67th District Judge Jeffrey Clothier in Grand Blanc said he hopes the punishment discourages people from stealing from Walmart.
"I don't think everybody that steals is a bad person. Sometimes people are just down on their luck,” said Clothier. "But there's going to be consequences when you break the law.”
Clothier tells Ed White of the Associated Press that he began ordering “Walmart wash” sentences this week for misdemeanor shoplifting, and that he eventually expects to order 75 to 100 people to wash cars at weekend events at Walmart in March and April.
