Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins made her bid for mayor official on Tuesday.
"Detroit, I am built for this. I’m so excited to announce my campaign to be the next Mayor of this great city," she posted on Facebook. "I have the experience, the strength, and the grit to be the Mayor for ALL Detroiters!"
Jenkins left the council in 2014 to become the CEO of The Heat And Warmth Fund (THAW), a nonprofit that provides utility assistance to Michigan residents.
She joins the current Council President Mary Sheffield, who recently announed her run for mayor. Others in the race include Detroit City Councilman Fred Durhal III.
